Ursula is very wrong about the salads. The company featured washes the majority of their salads in spring water not chlorinated water. Also, they are fresh, even product coming from their overseas farms is less than a week old when purchased in the supermarket. You will NOT be purchasing month old lettuce – why do you think these companies strive to harvest fresh product almost every day of the year??
Get your facts straight before rubbishing what you see.

I liked the series too. It’s been a lot of fun to watch. I think they only made 6 episodes ?? Too bad.

I disagree.

It disappoints me greatly that the programme is completely uncritical of the practices of supermarkets and companies who make prepared food.

He seems in awe of the way chemicals are pumped onto and into a variety of food, without giving any space to the potential problems – health, environmental, issues of sustainability etc.

It is simplistic and naive.

This series has been both funny and informative. Jimmy is a great host. I like the fact that it isn’t just another bunch of celebrity chefs decrying the supermarket way. We know fresh is best but it’s nice to be shown these things without being told it’s wrong. To be fair Jimmy doesn’t even make comments either way. About time someone told us what was going on without telling us what to think.

Hope there is a season 2

Well he’s being sponsored by Syngenta – massive chemical agrobusiness – GM toting company – just look at the programme credits.
Don’t think the beeb should be promoting this one.

You forgot to mention the hydrocolloids and di/mono glycerides which go into ice cream to emulsify the two phases.

Oh and don’t forget unilevers patented fish protein, actually found in sea pout blood, which is used to minimise ice crystal growth, thankfully thats only in america at the moment.

this series appears to be promoting the unsustainable practices of supermarkets- the huge piles of perfectly good wasted fruit and veg being a case in point.
not sure what jimmy is trying to achieve except product placement and promoting processed food
an irresponsible misguided move in the wrong direction- the guy calls himself a farmer for goodness sake!

maybe a dumb q but on the freeze drying experiment, if the left hand bowl had not been set in “ice” would the extracted gas have reverted to water? how did the “ice” stay frozen over 24hrs?
